The 2013 Friars Club Roast to Honor Actor, Comedian, Musician Jack Black
New York, November 28th, 2012 – Jack Black has officially agreed to take the hot seat at the 2013 Friars Club Roast. He will join the ranks of the Roast’s most recent honorees Betty White and Quentin Tarantino. The 2013 Friars Club Roast will take place on April 5th, 2013 in New York City.
Announcing Jack Black as the recipient of this year’s coveted “Roast”, Friars Club Abbot Jerry Lewis said they expect to have lots of fun with Jack Black: “We only roast the ones we love and with Jack, we love his comedy we love his music and we love his enormous talent. It’s going to be a great day for all of us! We are all big fans of Jack and being Roasted by the Friars in an honor he richly deserves! I wouldn’t miss this event for the world nor will his peers!”
Friars Club Executive Director Michael Gyure praised him as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors and comedians. “We could not be more pleased to have Jack Black as our Guest of Honor for our next Roast. He is loved by movie and concert goers of every generation, and he is an excellent and deserving recipient of this revered tradition.”
When asked about the roast Black quipped, “What did I get myself into this time? I’m searching for a loophole in my contract, maybe there’s a way I can weasel myself out of this thing. Those bastards are going to brutalize me, but Jerry Lewis assured me it’s going to be the highlight of my career, so I guess I got to go through with it.”
Jack Black began acting at the age of 13 and has gone on to become a revered actor with serious box-office draw. His most recent role as the star of the critically acclaimed BERNIE, has earned him the best reviews of his career and was recently nominated for two IFP Gotham Awards for Best Feature and Best Ensemble.
Black cemented his place in viewer’s hearts across the globe with memorable roles in films like TROPIC THUNDER, NACHO LIBRE, KING KONG, KUNG FU PANDA 1&2, and SCHOOL OF ROCK, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Black is also an accomplished singer and musician who regularly performs sell out concerts with his band Tenacious D, which he started with lifelong friend and collaborator Kyle Gass. The two went on to star in their own feature film, TENACIOUS D IN THE PICK OF DESTINY, which went on to become a cult hit.
Black’s other screen credits include the comedies BOB ROBERTS, HIGH FIDELITY, SAVING SILVERMAN, SHALLOW HAL, ORANGE COUNTY, ENVY, SHARK TALE, THE HOLIDAY, and 2000’s independent drama JESUS’ SON and 2007’s drama MARGOT AT THE WEDDING.
