In 1986 Friar Roger Moore was presented
with the Friars Oscar at a Testimonial Dinner in his honor. This
summer, he was honored once again by the Friars with the inaugural
Friars Club David Tebet Award. The award, which will be given
each year, recognizes persons who have made outstanding contributions
to the entertainment community- just like its namesake.

The Prior (Sally Jessy Raphael) and the Friar tussle Bond-style
Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Clive
Davis, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Kirk Douglas, and Barbara Walters
are among the many who were toasted by an array of talented stars
under Tebet's aegis.
Another
honoree that Tebet toasted was Roger Moore- both a business associate
and a close personal friend. He was the perfect choice to present
this premier award to, as Tebet acknowledged, "I cannot not think
of a better person to be the first recipient of the award than
my dear friend Roger." Moore's name is forever linked with one
of the most popular fictional characters of our time- James Bond.
His work, both in films and television, along with his humanitarian
endeavors have earned him this prestigious award. Moore has taken
on the daunting task of representing UNICEF, a position he graciously
accepted from Audrey Hepburn. His work has been extensive, ranging
from increasing awareness about children's rights and visiting
numerous projects around the world, to raising significant funds
for the organization's work.
"I do
not feel that I am worthy of this particular honor, but nevertheless
I shall be delighted to receive it.

The unique
award, Crystal Chinese Foo Dogs on a black wood base, designed by
Daum Crystal of France, is further homage to Tebet owing to his
being a connoisseur and collector of Chinese art. The Friars Club
David Tebet Award is one that the Friars Club will cherish and revere,
not to mention revel, in its presentations to the best that show
business has to offer. It complements perfectly the deep gratitude
and admiration that the Friars feel toward Tebet. The Club could
not have found a better friend, more loyal brother, and more valued
Friar than David Tebet. In presenting this award to Roger Moore
they have begun a tradition of excellence honoring those individuals
who are gifted with both talent and benevolence.
